Reciprocating air compressors are also known as piston air compressors, and as we mentioned they are considered one of the oldest types of air compressors, and they are available in single and double-acting forms, and they are either lubricated with oil, or oil-free.
1- Oil-lubricated reciprocating compressors:
This type of reciprocating compressor is lubricated by spraying, or pressure lubrication.
2- Oil-free reciprocating compressors:
Larger machines of this type are provided with a coupling cowl and seals; To prevent the oil from moving into the pressure chamber.
The idea of reciprocating compressors is based on the principle of positive displacement pressure, so the air is drawn into the cylinder and compressed by the moving piston.
The difference between single and double acting reciprocating air compressors; It is the use of one side of the piston for compression in the case of single-acting reciprocating compressors, while the upper and lower parts of the piston are used in the case of double-acting reciprocating compressors.
Reciprocating air compressor technology is among the cheapest, easiest and most widely used types, and for this it has a number of advantages, including:
• Easy to find support and maintenance.
• Ease of finding spare parts.
• Low price of spare parts.
• Relies on less complex working mechanisms.
• Available in different sizes.
At Atlas Copco, we provide you with a range of the best types of reciprocating air compressors, most notably:
• Professional Piston Compressor
• Industrial piston compressor- low pressure <15 bar • Industrial Piston compressor & booster - High pressure >15bar.
